Felicia Singh Joins CACF as Director of Policy and Government Relations

NEW YORK (January 17, 2022) -- The Coalition of Asian American Children and Families (CACF) welcomed Felicia Singh on Tuesday as the organization’s new Director of Policy and Government Relations. Felicia comes to CACF from the grassroots gender justice organization Jahajee Sisters, where she served as the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager.

“In Felicia, we found a seasoned advocate who has shown her commitment to the AAPI community time and again. Her deep community connections and extensive advocacy experience will further enhance our growing policy team as we further our work to ensure the voices of New York’s growing AAPI communities are seen and heard in the halls of power. All of us at CACF are looking forward to working with Felicia as we continue to strengthen our relationships with community-based organizations across the city who are doing the essential work of keeping our communities safe, healthy, and informed,” said CACF’s Co-Executive Directors Anita Gundanna and Vanessa Leung. “We have deep respect for the work Felicia did alongside the other members of Jahajee Sisters — a CACF member organization that does integral work in the Indo-Caribbean community.”

I'm proud to have grown as a leader through my work with Jahajee Sisters, an organization that continuously teaches me about the importance of building a world with gender-justice at its core.”

"While at Jahajee Sisters, Felicia helped build the strength of our base by leading outreach efforts, conducting political education, and supporting our members to advocate for systemic changes that would change their lives. She has been a true champion for the working class Indo-Caribbean women in our membership, and we are excited she will be adding Indo-Caribbean representation to the CACF team,” said Jahajee Sisters Co-Directors Shivana Jorawar and Simone Jhingoor. “We look forward to continuing our work with her as a CACF member as we jointly build power for our diverse AAPI communities." 

In addition to her work as an AAPI advocate, Felicia is also a trainer for New American Leaders, an organization that supports first and second generation Americans running for office. In 2021, Felicia ran in City Council District 32 in Queens, NY and became the first Indo-Caribbean and Punjabi person to win a Democratic Primary in NYC. She graduated from Adelphi University with a B.A. in English Literature and M.A. in Adolescent Education for grades 7-12, along with a certification in Special Education. A former English teacher, she taught English Literature to 7-10th graders for 10 years at various middle and high schools in New York and also worked on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion professional development initiatives for educators and administration. Felicia also served in the Peace Corps in China, where she taught English at Neijiang Normal University in Sichuan from 2013-2015.
