CACF Statement on Governor Hochul’s 2025 State of the State Address

NEW YORK, New York (January 15, 2025) --- In response to the State of the State address by Governor Kathy Hochul, the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families issued the following statement:

CACF appreciates Governor Hochul centering children and families in New York. From tax cuts to extending the child tax credit, the Governor is right; this could surely bring more money back to families. With the change in Federal administration, funding to education may be impacted, which is why universal school breakfast and lunch programs will be a pivotal need not only for funding in New York but also for equitable access to food. While we are heartened by some proposals, we will continue to question investing in additional police officers on the subway and involuntary commitment of people with mental health issues are the strategies to keep our communities safe. The State of the State is a template for what advocates and the State legislature will see in a proposed budget for New York State’s Fiscal Year 2026.

We are proud to co-lead the AAPI Equity Budget Coalition that supports AAPI leading and serving community-based organizations across the state to provide critical and life-affirming services. We hope that the Governor includes our budget ask of $54.35 million in the Executive Budget so that we can continue to build investments in building equity for our communities.

We are committed to working with the Governor and legislature to build an inclusive and just budget.
