Former Mayoral Candidate Art Chang Appointed As Chair of Coalition for Asian American Children and Families’ Board of Directors
NEW YORK (May 31, 2023) -- The Board of Directors of Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF), the nation’s only pan-Asian children and families’ advocacy organization, has announced the appointment of Art Chang as Chair of CACF’s Board of Directors. He replaces Larry Lee, who served as Board Chair since 2019 and will continue to provide his vision and expertise to CACF as Board Chair Emeritus.
Art Chang is a dynamic executive who has over three decades worth of experience in nonprofits, government, tech and finance. A 2021 candidate for New York City mayor, Art most recently created a successful legal knowledge management program at JPMorgan Chase and has led multiple start-ups innovating for the public good and in private industry: voter engagement, campaign finance, child welfare, television, publishing, music, fashion, and e-commerce through Tipping Point Partners, a tech startup incubator.
The son of Korean immigrant parents, Art has always advocated for children and future generations. When running for mayor, he proposed a universal childcare program and has continued to push for additional funding from the city and state government. In his new role, Art will lead CACF in promoting equity, inclusion, funding and policies supporting the Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community.
CACF’s mission is to advocate for equity and opportunity for marginalized AAPI children and families, providing an environment for children where they can feel safe, heard and seen through programs such as the Asian American Student Advocacy Project and the Social Justice Leadership Institute. These programs allow for children to reach their full potential and become future leaders in their community.
"We are so excited to have Art Chang as our new Chair of CACF’s Board of Directors. His years of experience in various sectors throughout New York City will allow CACF to continue to grow our groundbreaking advocacy on behalf of New York’s Asian American and Pacific Islander communities,” said Vanessa Leung, Co-Executive Director of CACF. “As the country’s only pan-Asian advocacy organization for children and families, our work at CACF has always focused on creating the spaces our communities need to thrive. I can’t think of anyone better to lead CACF through the current challenges facing our communities than Art Chang.”
“As a leader in both the AAPI community and in the worlds of business and politics, Art Chang is the right choice to lead CACF today,” said Anita Gundanna, Co-Executive Director of CACF. “His strong leadership qualities and knowledge of the inner workings of the government landscape will be an integral asset as CACF continues to work towards creating a New York State that is healthier and more equitable.”
“I am so proud to have been Board Chair for CACF these past 4 years. What we have accomplished in that timeframe has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Larry Lee, Board Chair Emeritus of CACF’s Board of Directors. “I’m excited to continue supporting CACF and Art Chang as he leads this organization into the future. I expect nothing but great things from him.”
“I am honored to be elected Chair of CACF’s Board of Directors. CACF’s mission is something that I have advocated for my entire life, and I look forward to working with CACF’s coalition partners to raise awareness to the issues facing AAPIs every day,” said Art Chang, Chair of CACF’s Board of Directors. “The AAPI community has been ignored for too long. I’ve made it my mission to advocate and bring equity to all AAPI children and families. I want to recognize my friend and outgoing Board leader Larry Lee, for his tireless commitment to CACF and our community.”
