parent leadership

CACF organizes Asian Pacific American parents to ensure that there is a collective voice in our advocacy initiatives.  We are responsible advocates by ensuring that Asian Pacific American parents themselves have a meaningful role in promoting equity.

Project B-SAAF (Building Supports for Asian American Families, pronounced "Be Safe")

Many immigrant Asian Pacific American families do not realize that their traditional childrearing practices can lead to reports of child abuse in the US.  Once reported, it is difficult to find bilingual, bicultural services to keep their families together.  Project B-SAAF educates caseworkers on culturally and linguistically appropriate services and Asian Pacific American families on acceptable childrearing techniques.

Project POWER (Parents Organized to Work for Equal Rights)

For many immigrant families, the public school and health systems are two of the first and largest government entities with which they interact.  However, the bureaucratic nature of the New York City public school and health systems prevent many Asian Pacific American parents, particularly recent immigrants with limited English skills, from accessing all of the services and resources entitled to their children.  Project POWER implements parent education on the rights of children and parents in education and health systems, advocacy for equitable policies, funding, and services to meet the needs of Asian Pacific American children and families, and parent mobilization to empower Asian Pacific American parents to advocate for equity and access.
