capacity building

CACF builds the capacity of organizations to better serve Asian Pacific American children, youth and families.

Project PACT (Promoting Assets and Capacity Together)

Because of the limited resources for Asian Pacific American organizations and the increasing demand for their services, CACF is collaborating with Filipino American Human Services Inc. (FAHSI), Korean American Family Services Center (KAFSC), and South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!) to improve our capacity to serve youth and families and address youth violence.  In 2006, the US Department of Health and Human Services awarded a three-year, $750,000 grant to launch Project PACT.

Project CORE (Children Overcoming through Resources and Education)

Only 2 percent of children receiving mental health services are Asian Pacific American although 10 percent of all children in New York City are Asian Pacific American.  There are language barriers to mental health services, and Asian Pacific American families have stigmas against mental illness.  Project CORE trains school, after school, and community organizations to provide safety and support for Asian Pacific American children in non-clinical settings.  In 2006, CACF trained nearly 400 schools, after school, and community organization staff.
