In 2013, CACF was selected as one of 50 lead agencies statewide to receive the In-Person Assistor (IPA)/Navigator grant for the New York State of Health, the official health insurance marketplace. IPAs/Navigators provide one-on-one assistance to individuals, families, small businesses and their employees who apply for health insurance through the marketplace With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, CACF recognizes the tremendous gains in increasing access to affordable health insurance options for New Yorkers.
CACF’s nine navigator partner organizations provide culturally and linguistically tailored outreach and education about the Affordable Care Act as well as enrollment assistance for private and public health insurance. We have served diverse communities including Arab American, Bangladeshi, Cambodian, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Fujianese, Indian, Japanese, Sikh, and many others.
Major milestones in 2014:
- CACF’s network of over 21 navigators speaking 19 different languages assisted over 12,000 individuals and families to find out about their health insurance options.
- CACF’s network of navigators implement robust outreach and education strategies including 76 outreach events, 50 community forums and workshops, and 88 media events.
- CACF provided ongoing technical assistance to navigator network to build their capacity and knowledge of health insurance options, services and resources, and patient protection laws.
